Pelican Landing Again.....

In October of 2005 I had my first hunting adventure with Ken Vogen and his outfit at Pelican Landing Resort. I was so impressed with Ken's total service and quality product, from lodging and meals to knowledgeable and hardworking guides, I wrote a testimonial which is still featured on this website today. After having recently enjoyed my fourth consecutive week-long hunt with Ken I am compelled to write another testimonial. As the old question goes; "Will it pass the test of time? In the case of Pelican Landing the resounding answer is YES! Ken and his crew keep making a good thing better. Since my first hunt with Ken's outfit he has added more private hunting lands as well as improved his access to Crown Lands (public lands) by adding more and bigger boats to his equipment. He has added to and improved the many comfortable elevated box blinds used for deer hunting. In short this wine is getting better with age! Over the last four years my party has killed 7 trophy deer and quite a few nice deer that would count as a trophy in some other parts of the continent. We have harvested countless ducks and grouse and amassed a lifetime of hunting memories in just four years - including a 300+ pound bear a couple of years ago. As I said in my first testimonial, I invite anyone interested in a quality Canadian hunting adventure to call or email me for details of my experiences with Pelican Landing Resorts - I have recommended it to members of a hunting club I belong to and all have been very satisfied with their adventures…

Incredible, that’s all I can say about my experience at Pelican Landing Resort on Lake of the Woods, Ontario. I couldn’t have asked for a better outfitter to use for my first guided hunt in Canada. I shot a 150 class 10–Pointer on my 2nd day in camp and spent the rest of the week experiencing some of the best duck and grouse hunting in my 23 years of hunting (and I hunt ducks on the eastern shore of MD smack in the middle of the Atlantic Flyway).

The guides were very courteous and extremely knowledgeable of the area we were hunting. The senior guide, Brian was nice enough to motor me all the way back to the lake to the lodge to change clothes after I had an unfortunate misstep and fell into the lake (38 degree water is might cold!!!). After I changed and warmed up with some coffee, Brian motored me back out to catch up with my group. 15 minutes after we caught up with everyone, I bagged my trophy. Later in the week, I limited out on duck 3 times and grouse twice.

The accommodations were excellent. The cabins are spacious, clean, climate controlled and modernized with private rooms (depending on how many are in your party). The meals that we enjoyed were phenomenal (the fried walleye is to kill for). We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner every day (much to the dismay of my supposed diet).

The only complaint that I have is that my trip seemed to go by too fast, but that’s what happens when you are having the time of your life. I would recommend Pelican Landing resort to anyone, from the seasoned hunter to the novice hunter. As I said before, this was my first trip to the great white north to hunt and I came away with one of the best experiences of my life (except for falling in the water) and the biggest deer I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to enjoy this hunt with my father and some very close friends, and Ken and his guides made sure that it was a trip that I will never forget.

If anyone would like to contact me for more information about my experience hunting at Pelican Landing, please call me or email me. I will be more than happy to speak with you about the wonderful hunt that I enjoyed.

I have been hunting waterfowl in Canada for over 10 years, from Manitoba to Alberta, and used several outfitters. Most have been good and many fond memories have been made. However, this year, after much research, I booked my party with Ken Vogan. Ken is the owner/operator of Pelican Landing Resorts of Lake Of The Woods Ontario. We had hopes of harvesting a big bodied Canadian white tail deer, as well as experience the superb waterfowl hunting I had grown accustom to in Canada. My research paid off, my party had a fantastic hunt! Ken’s outfit is truly first class!

The accommodations were extremely comfortable, climate-controlled cabins with private or semi-private rooms. The food was exceptional in quality, taste, and quantity. The hospitality was very warm and made us feel like Kings. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable – they appeared to be genuinely committed to giving us a quality hunt. Most importantly, the hunt it’s self was the best “paid” hunt I have experienced to date! Prime locations with comfortable blinds, both ground level and elevated. The locations were carefully chosen to give the hunter access to high volume game trails and/or feeding areas.

My party took several large bodied bucks over 200lbs., one a true trophy animal - 246 lbs. dressed, with 12-point headgear scoring over 140 points BC green. The two guys that did not take a deer, did so after passing up shots at bucks that would be considered a prize in many parts of the States. In addition to the great deer hunting, we also had excellent waterfowl hunting for both divers and puddle ducks – limits were easily obtained.

The chef at the lodge prepared some of the ducks as appetizers, allowing us to savor the fruits of our “labor”– what a treat! In addition to the superb waterfowl hunting, we also enjoyed a couple of afternoons grouse hunting. The shear numbers of grouse and their seeming suicidal tendencies was a pleasant surprise for this East Coast hunter. The grouse also found their way to our dinner table in a most scrumptious manner!

All in all, our first hunt with Pelican Landing will stay with us for many years - perhaps for a lifetime. I do not say this lightly and invite anyone interested to call or email me for additional testimonial. My party was so satisfied, before we left Pelican Landing, we booked our hunt for next year…

I could not have asked for a better trip. The fishing was excellent and the staff was first rate. Our guide put us on the fish every day we were there. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

I want to thank you for a great bear hunt this fall. Ken did a great job of baiting for us with plenty of sites and most were active. I shot my bear the first night out with a 50 cal knight and the other three hunters that came along with me all shot nice bears; with the biggest being about 650 lbs on the fifth day of the hunt.

Fishing was good for crappie and walleye with the lodge being at the edge of Lake of the Woods, things couldn't have been any handier.

The cook did a great job in the restaurant with great dishes for each meal. The restaurant was clean and a great place to sit and visit with new and old friends.

If any of you sportsmen reading this letter would like to hunt and fish in Canada I would recommend Pelican Landing in Morson, great bear action, good fishing action, all within 15 miles from the lodge. They also offer trophy whitetail with heavy bodies and horns, for other types of hunts call 1-888-690-8070 or email pelican@tbaytel.net

Thanks to Ken and the others at Pelican Landing we all had a great hunt!

Our experience at Pelican Landing was First Class all the way. Our Lodging was comfortable, clean and private. But we were most impressed with ws the way were treated from the moment we arrived. Our fishing guid was friendly and helpful and best of all he knew exactly where the fish were. He also put a hell of a shore lunch together. The staff at Pelican Landing cannot be beat!! The Head Chef and asisstant put on a pallet of pure delight every evening. We never knew what to expect but we knew it would be excellent and the camaraderie would be great. My wife being a first timer ont he lake couldn't wait to book our next trip.

With sincere thanks to Pelican Landing I will be doing more fishing the future.
